We all want to make the most out of our Botox for many reasons—it’s an investment, it takes time out of your day, and appointments can add to your mental load. So, how can we maximize the longevity of our Botox? Read on for some helpful tips and tricks.

What to avoid immediately following your treatment

After your Botox appointment, there are a few things you should avoid to help ensure the effectiveness and longevity of your treatment. The first is avoiding touching your face—specifically the areas where Botox was injected—for the first 4-6 hours. This helps prevent the Botox from migrating to unwanted areas. Similarly, you should avoid lying down during this period to keep the Botox in place. It’s also best to hold off on strenuous exercise for the first 24 hours after your appointment. Intense exercise increases blood flow, which can disperse the Botox, and we don’t want that.

    Skincare

Skin care plays a major role in increasing the longevity of your Botox. However, not all skin care products are created equal. Medical-grade skin care is the most effective in preventing aging and helping Botox last longer. We believe that SkinMedica offers the best medical-grade skin care on the market. Their TNS® Advanced+ Serum, which we lovingly refer to as "Botox in a bottle," contains growth factors that improve your skin's elasticity and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles—directly complementing the effects of Botox. Protecting and hydrating your skin is equally important, and SkinMedica offers a range of products that address these concerns and more.

    Live a healthy lifestyle

We hear it everywhere, and we know it’s important: taking care of yourself can help your Botox last longer. Eating healthy, drinking plenty of water, staying hydrated, avoiding the sun, and steering clear of nicotine all contribute to preventing signs of aging and helping your Botox stay effective longer.

    Reduce stress

You might be laughing or rolling your eyes after reading that, and I get it—reducing stress can feel like a challenge. While we all have busy lives and stress to manage, there are ways to mitigate it. Meditation and breathing exercises are great places to start. Exercise is also a wonderful way to reduce stress, whether through a daily walk, weight lifting, or yoga.

    Get a larger dose

Many patients find that they benefit from more units of Botox than they initially think they need. It’s important to note that more units don’t necessarily mean your face will appear “frozen.” When Botox is injected by a highly trained, experienced provider, it looks natural and tasteful. But getting more units will help extend the longevity of your Botox. The more units you get, the more muscle relaxation, which means longer-lasting results.

By following these tips, you can help ensure your Botox lasts as long as possible, keeping you looking and feeling your best!
