Am I a good fit for CoolSculpting®?

Alright, now to get down to business. How do you know if you’re a good candidate for CoolSculpting®? If you are active, healthy, within 5 pounds of your goal weight, but still have areas of your body with stubborn fat that you can’t get rid of, it's likely that you're a good candidate. That is, of course, just a general guideline, and a consultation has to be scheduled in order to determine whether or not you are a candidate for CoolSculpting®. During this consultation, if it’s determined by your provider that you’re a candidate, your provider will then work with you to form a treatment plan. CoolSculpting® operates on the Rule of Two, which simply means that it takes at least two treatments in order to get the best results. So, for each area you are treating, in order to obtain the best results, you would be treated twice in each area, during sessions that are typically 8 weeks apart.

What can I expect during my CoolSculpting® consultation?

During your CoolSculpting® consultation you will meet with a provider to discuss all the possible treatment plans, the areas of treatment desired, and finally, create a treatment plan unique to you and your goals. Your provider will walk you through all of your options and help you make the best decision for what you are wanting to achieve. By the end of the consultation, if a treatment plan is decided upon, you will know exactly how each treatment session will go, how long they will take, and how many you may need.

Each treatment session is unique to each individual patient and their plan. Treatment time varies from 1 to 4 hours, depending on how many applicators you are using. An applicator is the means by which cryolipolysis is done. Each applicator is a slightly different variation of an oval shape and all different sizes. These applicators are placed on the area of stubborn fat you are targeting so that freezing of the fat cells only happens there. Most patients require multiple applicators each treatment and each applicator is placed for 30 minutes, which is why there is time variation depending on the number of applicators used.

Before treatment begins, however, before and after pictures are taken in order to track progress and your provider will again walk you through exactly what your treatment will look like that day.

Does CoolSculpting® hurt?

So, you’re freezing fat cells off of your body. Does it hurt? The answer to that really depends on who you ask. Some patients find that there is a slight pinching feeling upon placement of the activator that goes away after 10 minutes as the skin numbs due to the cold.

After each applicator is removed, the area it was on is massaged. Many patients find that that is the most uncomfortable part of treatment, as the targeted area gets below freezing, causing the skin to be uncomfortable when touched. Most patients do not describe treatment as painful, but rather uncomfortable at some points. By any means, throughout the majority of treatment, you should not be experiencing any significant discomfort or pain.

A blanket, snacks, and a TV where you can play your show or movie of choice is provided so that you’re comfortable and entertained during what can be a long treatment.

As with any treatment, there are some risks associated with CoolSculpting®, although they are rare and relatively minor. These include skin irritation, numbness, and tingling at the treatment site. Some patients have also reported a feeling of hardness at the treatment site. These side effects, if experienced at all, should reside within the days following treatment. All that to be said, even if these side effects are experienced, there is no down time for CoolSculpting®, which is perfect for those of us that are busy but still want to improve our appearance.
