VOLBELLA® XC and Ultra XC are injectable dermal fillers from the JUVÉDERM® line of products by Allergan. There are clear gels that contains hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is found naturally throughout the connective tissues in the body and is present in especially large amounts in the skin. VOLBELLA® XC and Ultra XC injections can help fill fine lines and wrinkles around the mouth and give a better definition to the lips.

VOLBELLA® XC and Ultra XC can be injected more superficially under the skin to address problems such as deep nasolabial folds, smoker’s lines, marionette lines, and smile lines around the mouth.

Besides being a wrinkle filler, VOLBELLA® XC and Ultra XC can also be used to subtly fill the lips, giving them a plumper, smoother appearance. A VOLBELLA® XC or Ultra XC filler treatment can give more definition to the lips and soften the overall appearance of the lower third of the face.

VOLBELLA® XC and Ultra XC can be used in combination with other dermal fillers for more comprehensive facial rejuvenation. Our medical providers will discuss your aesthetic goals with you at the time of your initial appointment and develop a treatment plan using the appropriate dermal fillers based on your skin concerns.

VOLBELLA® XC and Ultra XC correct lines and wrinkles and replaces lost volume with hyaluronic acid, which, as noted, is a substance that is naturally present in the body. Hyaluronic acid injections in fillers like VOLBELLA® XC and Ultra XC immediately improve fine lines and volume loss in and around the lips, with long-lasting effects. Moreover, hyaluronic acid is a hydrophilic substance, i.e., it attracts water. This gives the skin in the treated area a more hydrated, smoother, and youthful look after VOLBELLA® XC or Ultra XC treatment.

Getting injections in the face sounds painful, but lip filler is well tolerated by most patients. This is because very fine needles are used to place the facial filler under the surface of the skin. Also, all the products in the JUVÉDERM® line, including VOLBELLA® XC and Ultra XC, contain lidocaine, a local anesthetic, which further reduces any discomfort.

Many patients report that the treatment was far more comfortable than they’d imagined and describe it more like a pressure sensation rather than pain. Nonetheless, if you are nervous about the injections, talk to your provider about using numbing cream before your lip filler treatment.

There is no specific preparation required other than arriving for your lip filler appointment with a clean face, free of any make-up.

The procedure itself is pretty straight forward. Your provider will clean your face with an antiseptic to reduce infection risk. They will then perform the VOLBELLA® XC or Ultra XC injection in the pre-planned treatment areas. The entire process does not take more than 30 minutes.

There will be an immediate improvement in the contour, fullness, and smoothness of your lips and the surrounding area after your lip filler injections. The results will continue to improve over the next couple of weeks as any minor swelling resolves.

VOLBELLA® XC and Ultra XC contain hyaluronic acid, a natural substance, and this is broken down by the body over time. As a result, the effects of your lip filler treatment will gradually fade. You can return for repeat filler treatment with VOLBELLA® XC or Ultra XC to maintain the effects. In most patients, the results last up to 1 year. However, this can vary from person to person.

When performed by a licensed medical provider who is experienced in dermal filler treatments, VOLBELLA® XC and Ultra XC are safe and effective cosmetic treatments. A provider will review your health history, medications, and allergies at the time of your initial consultation to ensure you can get lip filler safely.

Temporary redness, itching, soreness, and swelling are common side effects of VOLBELLA® XC or Ultra XC. These injection-related symptoms typically resolve within a few days.

The FDA has approved all the JUVÉDERM® facial fillers, including VOLBELLA® XC and Ultra XC, for use in adults over 21 years old. VOLBELLA® XC and Ultra XC are safe for all skin types and skin tones.

The treatment is not recommended for anyone with an active skin infection or acne breakout. Also, in people with a history of cold sores, preventive antiviral medicine may need to be prescribed to reduce the risk of a breakout.

You are not a candidate for VOLBELLA® XC or Ultra XC if you are allergic to any of the components in the filler and pregnant women are generally advised to wait until they complete the pregnancy and breastfeeding before undergoing facial filler treatments.
