VOLUMA® XC is an injectable hyaluronic acid dermal filler. Hyaluronic acid is a substance that is naturally found throughout the body. It is present in especially high concentrations in the skin. HA gives the skin a supple, hydrated appearance. VOLUMA® XC is an FDA-approved hyaluronic acid filler from the well-known JUVÉDERM® family.

As the name suggests, VOLUMA® XC is a volumizing dermal filler. It is placed deep inside the skin, at the level of the bone in the cheek and chin area. It helps to correct volume loss and lift the mid-face to give it more definition.

While the filler itself is placed in the upper part of the cheeks, VOLUMA® XC helps to pull up sagging tissues in the lower face as well. This aids in correcting problems such as marionette lines, deep nasolabial folds, and jowls, essentially resulting in a mid-face non-surgical rejuvenation.

VOLUMA® XC works by restoring the effects of aging in the cheeks and chin. It is injected into the treatment area and instantly fills up lost volume with a natural substance – hyaluronic acid. What’s more, because hyaluronic acid is a hydrophilic (i.e., it likes water) substance, it pulls moisture into the treated area, giving the skin a more hydrated and supple appearance. VOLUMA® XC filler also encourages the formation of new collagen and elastin in the skin. VOLUMA® XC acts in multiple ways to rejuvenate the face and give it a more youthful appearance.

Your provider will begin your VOLUMA® XC treatment by cleansing your skin. They may apply some topical anesthetic (numbing cream) to reduce any discomfort from the filler injections. VOLUMA® XC contains lidocaine, a local anesthetic, along with hyaluronic acid, so additional numbing cream is not required. The procedure itself is relatively quick and usually takes less than 30 minutes to perform.

VOLUMA® XC is a minimally invasive cosmetic treatment with no downtime. You can go home immediately after your treatment and return to all normal activities. You will need to avoid activities that can require putting any pressure on the treated area for a few days.  This is to prevent the filler from moving into areas not part of your original treatment.

Common side effects of Voluma include temporary redness, minor pain, swelling, and itching at the injection sites. There may occasionally be some discoloration, firmness, or the formation of lumps or bumps.

People who have known allergies to hyaluronic acid or any of the other ingredients in VOLUMA® XC should not undergo this filler treatment. The treatments are not recommended in pregnant and breastfeeding women. Clients taking blood thinners and NSAID medications (ibuprofen, aspirin) should inform their doctor because these medicines are associated with a higher risk of bleeding with injection treatments.
